History:
I was born in the winter of 1822, it was cold and my father was doing all he could to keep the house warm. I was the sixth child to be born, at the time I had two living sisters while the older two had died before I was born. My father worked as a farmer while my mother worked as a seamstress, all while taking care of us three kids. When I was five years old my family decided to move to America my sister Emma died shortly after we arrived, and mother soon found her self with child soon after. We lived in New York City for the next fifteen years; father now working in a factory while mother continued being a seamstress.
Back then getting an education was not as important as it is today, well it was, but not everyone could afford to get one. So in order to make money and support myself as best I could I worked every job I could find, my favorite was a roofer, being a chimney sweep was the worst, so much dirt. When I was twenty I met a nice young lady named Caroline, after courting her for a time the two of us were married and soon ended up leaving the city to eventually settle in a small town in Eastern North Caroline, Caroline was a teacher, and the small town of Winterly needed a teacher and was okay with Caroline being married. So as she started her new job, I found myself doing various odd jobs around time to help bring in money. Winterly wasn't much back then, very small, mostly a place where people traveling thru the mountains would stop for a good meal as they traveled onward. Most said the place was a little to spooky to stay in for long, Caroline and I did not have any problem, and we stayed. A year after moving south we welcomed our first child, Abby would be the first of six children, only one of which would die before she could see adulthood. After our third child I was approached by the town mayor with a proposition, Wintelry had been without a sheriff for several years and the towns time of getting by with little to no law enforcement was coming to an end. Caroline was not keen on me taking the job, but Winterly was not the wild west, the most I had to worry about was a drunk causing trouble.
In 1856 there was an outbreak of Typhoid fever in town, sadly we lost several townsfolk, our daughter Cait was one of those that the Lord deemed fit to call home. The loss was hard, but I did not have time to mourn the loss. No sooner did we bury the sweet girl did I myself get sick with the fever, the sickness just about killed me, but I wasn't ready to leave just yet. It took a while for me to get my strength back, but once I was able to walk again without any help I was back at my job. As the years went on Winterly slowly got bigger, Caroline and I welcomed out last two children and life move on. Sixteen years later it would all change.
I had never thought about how I would die, or where it would happen. It was always something that I knew would happen, it was apart of life. We are brought screaming into this world and then hopefully go peacefully from out sleep from it. Winter in the mountains was always cold, depending on the year we might get snow or we might now. The winter of 1822 was cold, everyone stayed inside as much as possible, I was well into feeling my age and the cold did not help. One night I was heading home from the jail. I still don't know how the fire started, I just know it came from the blacksmiths house. As I rounded the corner nearest the house there was an explosion. That was the last time I ever felt or smelled anything, and feeling your skin burn away is not a nice way to go, the smell was not that great either.
The next time I opened my eyes I was standing on the same street but this time something was different. No one noticed me, even when I shouted for their attention. I did not know it at the time, but I was very much so dead. It would take me several more years to finally come to terms with my new status in life. I had never believed in ghosts before, they were just stories that grandmothers told to make kids behave. But now I was one. Life started moving much faster after my death. I watched my wife later pass away and my kids grow up and move on from Winterly till at last it was just me and the other spectres that roam the town. Things got boring, mostly because I had nothing to do but listen in on various radio programs, eventually I taught myself to read, that made things a ltitle bit better. Now I spend my days patrolling the streets like I used to, when I am not doing that I am usually hanging out at the Sailor House with my great great great great grand kids who run the place.

Role Play Sample:
"Who names a company after a fruit?"
Veronica looked up from her notepad and looked down the bar to where Charlie sat; it was mid-morning the bar was quiet, so Charlie decided he was going to enjoy the paper, since it was still to early for the soap operas. Veronica smirked and shook her head, "The man who named that fruit company was a very rich man." she replied as she went back to the inventory list. Charlie kept looking at the paper, "I remember when the library got one of those computers, one of the aldermen raised hell over the cost." he reached out to turn the page, his hand slipped thru the paper and into the counter top. He sighed, even though he had not taken a breath in almost a hundred and fifty years, it was one of those habits that refused to go away.
He tried to grab the page again but once again his hand moved thru the paper, "You have no problem changing the tv channels but can't turn a piece of paper.." he looked up at his granddaughter walked down the bar, "It is harder than you think." he told her as she flipped the page for him. "I know, I know..I should try being your age and yada yada yada." she replied as she went back to counting bottles. Charlie gave her a look, before taking his attention back to the paper, he had plans to get to the entertainment section before the bar got busy again, so there was no time for talking.
