There was everything wrong with this town. Even the memories were dreadful. She threw the basketball at the goal as her twins tried to block it. Her mind was just not into the things she enjoyed right now. "Mom, how much longer are you going to mope around town?" Of the twins Vanessa was the one with the most optimistic outlook since they had left New York. Vicki didn't have an answer. She caught the basketball and sighed. Her arms were still sore from the few days prior.
"I still don't get why we had to come back to this place if you hate it so much and Nathan is such a prick" she retorted.
"Sarah Christina. Lingua!" (Christina, Language) she reminded her sharply. Victoria again through the basketball with half an effort at Vanessa who tried to get Chrissy to settle down. Victoria just hoped this would pass; but perhaps that was a deep seeded hope. Right some completely wasted effort and this town could just shove it.

He moved quickly, chasing the rabbit with help from Rabbit and a Squirrel, both were foxes and more meant for ambushing prey, than chasing it. But this Rabbit had a snare wrapped around one leg and they needed to catch it. Javan scared the rabbit into turning left and it was met by Squirrel, who quickly snapped its neck. Javan then heard the voices coming from the park. He looked through the bushes to see a woman and two girls. The woman reeked of anger and resentment, and the girls seemed agitated as well. He mentally told the foxes to take the rabbit back to his camp, Squirrel left but Rabbit stayed.
Javan and the fox walked out of the bushes, with Javan remaining silent. He did not approach them, but watched them carefully. He had been in the woods a long time, and human to human relations were not something he was used to. Rabbit pressed against his leg reassuring him. Javan nudged the fox with his leg to thank him. Javan wasn't sure how to deal with these people, but he hated to see anyone suffering.
He began walking towards them, slowly. He had no thoughts for his appearance, which were lacking in any form cleanliness. His rabbit pelt coat was freshly washed, but the clothing underneath were ratty and smelly from lack of wash, but since they were his only clothes, and it was winter, so getting naked and splashing about in the lake was not exactly foremost in his plan for the time being.
"Umm, is something wrong? I'm not sure I can do anything to help, but if you need someone to talk to..." He settled back on his heels. If the woman told him to screw off he would leave, but if she wanted to talk, hell he would listen. His parents had both raised him to help others, even if you didn't know how.

It was Crissy who replied. The 14 year old twins knew enough to know what they had been tangled up in before they were 10. Their parents discussions were eves dropped on almost constantly. "She doesn't know you. I doubt she's going to just up and tell you what's bugging her" Crissy was the more agitated of the two twins and the most rebellious.
Victoria could feel that the child was different like her. She could sense it; though it wasn't human. Right she could sense the uneasiness in the child. He had a wild spirit. Victoria just didn't feel like dealing with anyone outside of her family circle at the moment. When she got up and left it was Vanessa who spoke.
"Don't take it personally. She hasn't talked to anyone since we came to town." Vanessa stayed at a distance but watched her mother leave and just shook her head. Crissy didn't understand as much of the hurt as Vanessa did. It was the whole empathetic thing. Vanessa shook her head and sighed. Right this family was so screwed up. Kevin the youngest followed Victoria and kept close.

"Kinda figured on that, but I was raised to help people. Oh this is Rabbit." Javan crouched a bit and Rabbit jumped up onto his shoulders. The fox was a beautiful shade of pumpkin orange with black feet and a white bib and tail tip. Rabbit nosed Javan's ear.
They are something like you. Not the same, but similar. Be careful. And remember what I told you when you first arrived here, the people in this town are all very strange. I have heard from others that a female burned down a barn. It was before my time. Fang, you should exorcise great care in your dealings with these people. And watch out for the half wolves. The fox flicked his tail and stretched out along Javan's shoulders, like a cat on the back of a couch or armchair.
"I've only been around here for a few weeks, so I really don't know the people." He was slightly nervous, since Rabbit rarely gave warnings, and when he did, they often proved wise. He stroked Rabbit's head. Javan didn't believe in keeping pets, he respected animals too much for that. But some animals chose to be around him, like Rabbit and Squirrel. Regular rabbits didn't stand a chance with the three of them hunting. And Javan was even getting jobs from local farmers to trap pest animals like raccoons and weasels. He had a fair sum of cash already built up, close to two hundred dollars, and once the hides had finished drying he would have a couple hundred more from their sale. "I hate to be nosy but how long have you been here?"
